This Moroccan style Tagine is great for cooking simple dishes such as chicken and rice. After the Tagine has been oiled on the inside, add chicken stock and uncooked rice, chicken on the bone skin on, spices, and close the lid. The moisture re- circulates around the pot continually and cooks everything to a moist tender finish, fantastic! This is a Fair Trade item 8"H with lid La Chamba cookware from Colombia is made by hand, not glazed but burnished. Each piece is made, covered with a thin film of red clay, then burnished with smooth stones. The piece is then fired and covered with rice husks and smoked. The clay that is used has flecks of mica in it and works as a heat conductor so that the pottery heats evenly and does not crack under temperature changes. The clay is lead-free. La Chamba dinnerware is perfect from the stove to the table. It is suitable for the oven or stovetop (with electric stoves we recommend a heat diffuser on the stove top- it is not necessary with gas stoves) and microwave ovens. Please allow to cool completely before putting the pieces from the oven/stovetop into the refrigerator. La Chamba pottery will flavor the food in a way that metal cannot.
