Grieb Gretch was not the beauty her mother had hoped her to be, but she made up for that by her undaunted enthusiasm for everything she did. She could be described as plain as a bowl of dried plaster. She wore a drab dress most of the time and orthopedic black shoes which she found to be quite practical. The one thing that you might consider a little eccentric was the silk scarf wrapped like a turban around her head, this started after a life changing trip to Mozambique.
The year was 1989 and Grieb was on her way to Mozambique. It was vast and beautiful there, but just her luck something happened while she was sunning on the beach. She was sprayed by the venom of the Black Spitting Scorpion - one of the most venomous species in Africa. The infection was so severe; it caused her to lose her hand. After a year of healing and rest, she was given a hand transplant. The donor was a woman named Fat Eva. She died a week earlier and donated organs and body parts to science. Fat Eva was a plus size model and was famous for her beautiful hands. If you look closely at Grieb’s hands, you will notice that one is larger than the other. Grieb’s new hand grew acquainted with her body and soon she could return to a full life.
She was 46, had already travelled the world, trained fourteen miniature poodles (as show dogs) and written two crime novels. She did not mean to find trouble, trouble found her. In India she watched a snake charmer a little too closely. The cobra lifted up, jerked back and lunged forward to strike Grieb. Luckily she had great reflexes and jumped back, but not in time to save her pack which someone grabbed while she was distracted with the snake. Her passport, gun and money were all stolen. Grieb simply contacted the US embassy and was flown home on a government plane. She was resourceful that way.
I guess it was her innocent down home looks that made people attempt to take advantage of her but they never got far. Grieb grew up with a bother who later became a champion cage wrestler and she learned all the moves at an early age. She was also adept with a gun. Grieb could take care of herself.
Between adventures, Grieb sits in the garden and cooks up her next idea - her third crime book. In her mind she recalls her kidnapping in Brazil….this would be a great start to her first chapter.
